A Sibley man was taken to the hospital after an accident near Ocheyedan earlier this week.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, a 2006 Freightliner semi operated by Melvin Johnson, 74, of Melvin was northbound on Tyler Avenue, a mile north of the east side of Ocheyedan, and a 1996 Chevy pickup operated by Levi Christensen, 35, of Sibley was westbound on Iowa 9. After stopping at the stop sign, Johnson proceeded north on Tyler Avenue and did not see Christensen approaching the intersection. Christensen was unable to avoid the accident, and the vehicles collided. The crash took place at about 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Christensen was transported to Avera Medical Group Sibley. The Freightliner semi sustained $7,000 in damages, while Christensen’s Chevy pickup sustained $10,000 in damages and was considered totaled.
Johnson was charged with entering a through highway.
