Sectional girls basketball tournament action begins Thursday

The Section 3A girls basketball tournament gets underway Thursday night with four games, with Super Saturday set for this weekend in the Worthington High School gymnasium.
In matchups this evening on the South side of the bracket are seventh-seeded Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda hosting 10th seed Red Rock Central at 7 p.m. in Fulda and eighth-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton entertaining ninth seed Southwest Minnesota Christian at 7 p.m.
On Saturday at Worthington High School, it will be top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek facing Southwest Minnesota Christian or Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 11 a.m. No. 4 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton next meets No. 5 Westbrook-Walnut Grove at 12:30 p.m., followed by No. 2 Adrian-Ellsworth against either Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda or Red Rock Central at 2:30 p.m. The final Saturday game at WHS will feature No. 3 Murray County Central and No. 6 Edgerton at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, in Section 3AA girls action, south bracket games slated for 7 p.m. Saturday include No. 8 Montevideo at No.1 Fairmont, No. 5 Luverne at No. 4 Windom, No. 7 Redwood Valley at No. 2 Pipestone Area, and No. 6 Jackson County Central at #3 St. James.
Quarterfinal games in both tournaments are scheduled for Tuesday.

At state Class A girls hockey Wednesday, Warroad defeated Luverne 5-1.
