Red Rock, Big South conferences select spring softball standouts

The All-Red Rock Conference softball team for the just-completed season has been announced.

Included on the team are:

Adrian-Ellsworth: Sophomores Maddie Cummings, Brekkyn Dreesen, Avery Jenniges and Audrina Tiesler.

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Chrisitan: Seniors Reese Vande Griend, Presley Van Dyke and Kya Voge and juniors Lianna Bloemendaal and Addi Nibbelink.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda: Sophomore Lauryn Hendel.

Murray County Central: Seniors Kate Blankenship and Ava Deacon.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut-Grove: Seniors Leah Carter and Carlie Ross.

Honorable mention selections include:

Adrian-Ellsworth: Senior Mersaydes Marten and sophomore Taylor Luing.

Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian: Junior Jenna Feikema and sophomore Cali Wager.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda: Senior Addysen Hendel and eighth-grader Henley Fisher.

Murray County Central: Senior Calleigh Doeden.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove: Senior Deann Roiger and junior Natasha Wahl.

Tucker Brandner and Max Ostrem tossed a combined no-hitter on Sunday and struck out 14 hitters over seven innings as the Worthington Cubs beat Fox Lake 3-0. The Cubs, now 3-5 overall, got three hits and an RBI from Daniel Castro to lead the offense. Worthington will host Heron Lake at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Jackson County Central led all teams with four players named to the Gold Division Big South Conference Softball All-Conference Team for the just-completed season.

Huskies recognized on the team were seniors Bailey Finck and Hadley Wachal, junior Mady Wachal and freshman Kinley VanDeVere. Among others named to the team were: seniors Kaitlyn Adelman and Jaydn Kor and junior Kaysa Douty of Pipestone Area, senior Jocelyn Altman and junior Rylee Kurtz of Luverne; and senior Anja Nielsen and junior Addison Evans of Windom.

Four more JCC players earned honorable mention honors and included senior CJ Pauling, junior Miley VanDeVere, and sophomores Cora Pauling and Brielle Tufvesson. The Huskes took third at last week's state Class AA tournament. Also selected as honorable mention were senior Gabbie Nath-Huls of Luverne and sophomore Josie Danks of Pipestone Area.

The Black Division Big South Conference Softball All-Conference Team has also been announced, and one Worthington student-athlete was recognized. Emma Hietbrink, a Trojans sophomore, received honorable mention honors. Six players from St. Peter were named to the all-conference team. Four players from Belle Plaine were picked for the all-conference team; two were honorable mention choices.
