R-T-R, Pipestone Area advance in volleyball; football playoffs continue tonight across region

In the Section 3A South volleyball championship match Thursday night, it was Russell-Tyler-Ruthton topping Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 3-0 at Southwest Minnesota State University. Scores were 25-10, 25-10, 25-12. R-T-R will now take on Minneota at 5 p.m. Saturday at SMSU for the right to go to the state tournament.

In the Section 3AA South volleyball title match, Pipestone Area took care of Windom 3-0 in Worthington. Scores were 25-15, 25-12, 25-12. The Arrows will meet Paynesville at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at SMSU for a state tourney berth.

Multiple sectional football games are scheduled for today across southwest Minnesota.

In 9-man football, Red Rock Central will take on Mountain Lake Area at 11:30 a.m. today in Southwest Minnesota State University with a Section 3 championship and state tournament qualification on the line.

In Class A, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton will face Springfield at 4 p.m., also at SMSU for the Section 3A title and a state berth. At 7 p.m., Jackson County Central will do battle against Pipestone Area for the Section 3AA championship and a trip to state; that game is at SMSU as well.

In the Section 3AAA title game, Waseca meets Fairmont at 7 p.m. in New Ulm. In Section 2AAAA, Marshall plays at Hutchinson, also at 7 p.m. Winners of both games will play at state.
