Public hearing on solar project set for 6 p.m. on Monday

A public hearing on the planned solar facility and battery energy storage system in Nobles County is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Worthington Event Center.

Plans are for Summit Lake Solar LLC — which is part of Geronimo Power — to construct a 200-megawatt solar facility and an accompanying 200-megawatt / 800 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system in Summit Lake and Elk Townships. Plans for the Summit Lake Solar Project were introduced in May 2025.

The solar farm would cover approximately 1,400 acres of land near the Nobles Substation northwest of Reading in Summit Lake Township. The battery energy storage system would be constructed adjacent to the collector substation, forming a major renewable energy installation in the region.

The meeting is being hosted by the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. Public comment on the joint site permit application for the project will be taken.
