Police say there's no danger following school threat in Mt. Lake

The Mountain Lake Police Department investigated a threat to the Mountain Lake Public School system on Friday.

According to a press release issued by the police department, it was contacted by school administration at 10:05 a.m. Friday about a student who had made threatening statements earlier in the week about “shooting up the School (Mountain Lake Public School).

The press release added that there was no specific date or time stated when the shooting was supposed to take place or if the student had the means or ability to carry out the threats. The suspected student had not been at the school since the threats had been made and did not reside in Mountain Lake.

Law enforcement in the community where the suspected student lived was contacted, and the student ultimately secured. There is no immediate threat to the public or schools, the press release said.

The case remains under investigation and once completed, will be referred to the Cottonwood County Attorney’s Office for review.
