The Heron Lake Lakers, Jackson Bulls, Lakefield Horned Frogs and Hadley Buttermakers have all advanced to the Region 13C Amateur Baseball Playoffs following best-of-three series victories.
Heron Lake, by defeating the Worthington Cubs 9-3 on Saturday, earned a 2-0 sweep and remained alive in the postseason. The Lakers, the fifth-seed team from the First Nite League, will next face Luverne in a best-of-three series that begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Luverne.
Jackson completed a 2-0 sweep of Pipestone by edging the A’s 3-1 on Friday night. The Bulls, the third-seeded team from the First Nite League, will begin a three-game series on the road in Milroy on Wednesday night.
Lakefield, the No. 4 seed from the First Nite League, defeated the Ruthton Royals 2-1 in their three-game series. The Horned Frogs advanced in the playoffs by topping Ruthton 9-3 on Sunday afternoon. Lakefield plays the opening game of their series with Fairmont on Wednesday.
Hadley, the No. 3 seed from the Gopher League, routed Fox Lake 18-2 on Saturday to finish off a two-game sweep of the Foxes. Hadley will now take on Windom in a best-of-three series that starts Wednesday in Windom.
Winners of each of these four series qualify for the state tournament. The State 100th Minnesota Baseball Association state tournament is slated to get underway Aug. 18 at locations in Dassel, Delano and Litchfield.
