Unity Christian made a single second-inning run stand up Thursday as it put an end to Sheldon’s high school softball season by edging the Orabs 1-0 in Iowa Class 3A Region 1 play Thursday.
Unity Chrisitan improved to 15-11 on the year and will next face Estherville Lincoln Central in a semifinal matchup at 7 p.m. Saturday in Estherville. Sheldon concluded its season with a mark of 9-10.
The Midgets, now 29-6, advanced to the semis thanks to a dominating 14-0 triumph over Okoboji. Estherville Lincoln Central scored 13 runs in the second inning alone. Okoboji saw its 2024 campaign with a 6-15 record.
In other action Thursday, West Lyon kept its softball season going by taking care of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 11-1. The Wildcats now have a record of 21 wins and 3 losses on the season. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley’s summer ends with a Nighthawks’ record of 11-14.
Also Thursday, MOC-Floyd Valley eliminated Spirit Lake from postseason play as the Dutchmen outlasted the Indians 10-6. MOC-Floyd Valley now has 16 wins against 9 losses this season and will meet West Lyon at 7 p.m. Saturday in Inwood. Spirit Lake finishes at 9-17.

In Iowa Class 2A Region 1 quarterfinal baseball action Wednesday night, MMCRU put an end to Central Lyon’s season by winning 8-2. MMCRU is now 10-13 this summer; the Lions wrapped up their year at 5-17.
