One hurt in car-vs.-semi crash near state line

A Milford man was transported to an area hospital following a Tuesday afternoon collision with a semi.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, a Pontiac operated by Walter Frank, 64, was southbound on Iowa 86 near the Iowa-Minnesota state line when he swerved across the center line and struck the front tire of an oncoming semi operated by Samuel Deppa, 50, of Kansas. Frank wound up in the west ditch, and the semi went into the ditch and stopped in a field.

Frank was taken to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-life-threatening injuries. Deppa was unhurt. The Iowa State Patrol; Spirit Lake, Milford, and Arnolds Park police departments; Iowa DNR; Spirit Lake First Responders and Lakes Regional Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
