Northwest Iowa man dies in Friday crash near Rock Rapids

A George, Iowa man died and another individual injured as the result of a Friday crash near Rock Rapids.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2016 Peterbilt semi operated by Matthew Wieber, 28, of Benson, Minnesota, was southbound on Lyon County K60 about three miles east Rock Rapids, while a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup operated by Steven Cuperus, 64, of George was eastbound on Iowa 9. The vehicles collided in the intersection.

Wieber was taken by Lyon County Ambulance to Avera Merrill Pioneer Hospital. Cuperus was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was sent to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation.
