Northwest Iowa crash earlier in week injures four from Worthington

Four people from Worthington were injured as a result of a northwest Iowa crash earlier this week.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office, a 2005 Ford F150 pickup operated by Rey Torres Romero, 48, of Worthington and registered to Isela Esmeralda Ayala of Worthington was westbound on Iowa 9 near Truman Avenue near Ocheyedan. Torres Romero reportedly fell asleep, and the pickup rolled into the south ditch. The crash took place at around 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Torres Romero as well as three passengers — Jose Antoni Reyes, 42; Erlin Jose Martinez, 32; and Luz Marina Mejia Miranda, 35, all of Worthington -- were transported to the Osceola Regional Health Center in Sibley. The passengers’ injuries were described as “non-incapacitating,” while the report called Torres Romero’s injuries “incapacitating.”

The pickup sustained an estimated $7,500 in damage. Torres Romero was cited on charges of no valid driver’s license and failure to maintain control. The Ocheyedan Ambulance Squad and Fire Department assisted at the scene.
