Missing juvenile male found in 4 1/2 feet of water

A missing 15-year-old juvenile male was located late Wednesday morning while a search for him was being conducted on Eagle Lake, according to a press release from the Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office.

The 15-year-old had been canoeing with a family member late Monday afternoon and had jumped into the lake to retrieve a lost oar. The juvenile male attempted to swim back to the canoe, but the wind had pushed the canoe further away from him. The family member lost sight of the teen as they drifted further apart.

An initial search for the juvenile male was suspended at 2 a.m. Tuesday. The Cottonwood County Sheriff's Office said in a press release issued late Tuesday evening that another search had been conducted Tuesday and suspended at 9 p.m. Recovery efforts were to continue Wednesday, it said.

On Wednesday, the juvenile male was located at approximately 11:25 a.m. in about four and a half feet of water. He was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. Further information will be released on Thursday.

Assisting at the scene were the sheriff's offices of Jackson, Blue Earth, Brown, Redwood and Renville counties, as well as the Mountain Lake Fire Department, the Windom Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
