The State of Minnesota, on the occasion of Minnesota Statehood Day May 11, recognized several individuals who contribute to its preservation. Among them was Anita Gaul, history instructor at Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Worthington campus.
Gaul was presented the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Medallion Award by Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon. The award is the highest recognition bestowed by a secretary of state.
The award was presented in conjunction with the unveiling of the new state seal and state flag. Chairman Luis Fitch and vice-chairwoman Gaul, both members of the State Emblems Redesign Commission, along with flag designer and Minnesota West alumnus Andrew Prekker of Luverne and seal designer Ross Bruggink. were each recognized with the honor.
Gaul was appointed to the State Emblems Redesign Commission by the Minnesota Legislature and embarked on the redesign of the state seal and flag. The endeavor was to honor Minnesota’s past while embracing its future.
