Minnesota River's girls and boys hockey teams each shut out WHS

The Worthington Trojans girls hockey team played host to a strong opponent in Minnesota River and were defeated 6-0 Thursday night.
The Bulldogs, who improved to 14-5-1 on the winter, scored a pair of goals in the first period and outshot the Trojans 15-2. Minnesota River then added a shorthanded goal as well as single even-strength and power-play goals in the second period as the Bulldogs held a 5-0 advantage after the first 34 minutes.
Minnesota River got its final tally with 6:35 remaining in the game and wound up outshooting Worthington by a whopping margin of 49-5. Trojan goalkeeper Macie Mahlberg made multiple great saves in the defeat, which left WHS with a record of 7-11. Its next matchup is Tuesday at Mankato West,
The Trojan boys, meanwhile, played their hockey game Thursday at Minnesota River and were defeated 15-0. WHS is now 2-14 and will next meet Prairie Centre at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Worthington Ice Arena.
