More than twice as much rain than what's normal for the month of May was recorded in Worthington during the last month, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.
A total of 9.21 inches of rain was measured at the plant in May, compared to the 4.09 inches typical for the month. A total of 1.95 inches of that precipitation was recorded on May 24, and another 1.76 inches was measured on the 16th. A total of 1.52 inches of rain was also recorded on May 7.
May high temperatures in Worthington were again above normal, and low temperatures during the month were also warmer than average.
The average high temperature in Worthington in May was 70.6 degrees, or 2.6 degrees warmer than the average May high of 68.0. The warmest high of the month, 84 degrees, was recorded on the 18th; the next warmest high was 83 on the 13th.
The average low in Worthington in May was 48.3 degrees, or 2.5 degrees warmer than the normal of 45.8. The coldest temperature reading came at 39, which was recorded on May 5. The next coolest was 41, which came on the 8th.
For the first five months of 2024, the average high has been 47.4 degrees and the average low 27.2. That compares to typical year-to-date averages of 42.5 and 22.9, respectively. Meanwhile, this year's total precipitation is 15.8 inches; the average total for this time is 10.15 inches.
