Marshall man arrested following standoff, fired shots

A 63-year-old Marshall male was taken into custody following a standoff situation Wednesday in Marshall.

 

A press release from the Marshall Police Department stated that officers were called Wednesday to the 100 block of East Main Street to assist with a family matter. While at the scene, the 63-year-old male made verbal threats toward an officer and fired a handgun. As the officer assisted another family member to safety and exited the residence, the suspect barricaded himself inside.


The Brown, Lyon, Redwood, and Renville Emergency Response Unit was activated for assistance. After negotiations failed, attempts to remove the male from the residence with the use of chemical agents was attempted. During the incident, the suspect fired additional rounds outside the residence.

 

The male was ultimately taken into custody without injury at approximately 11 p.m. The suspect was to be medically cleared prior to being booked into the Lyon County Jail. Formal charges will be submitted to the Lyon County Attorney’s Office.

 

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
