The city of Marshall was hit by another a strong thunderstorm over the weekend.
Though the rainfall of 1.38 inches reported by the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls was far less than the rains of between 5 and 8 inches reported following a July 18 storm in Marshall, strong winds still wreaked havoc. This past weekend's storm arrived shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday and delivered winds in excess of 70 mph.
The City of Marshall reported that there was widespread tree damage throughout the community and several roads blocked due to downed trees. Marshall Fire and Public Works Departments were on the ground as soon as the storm passed with heavy equipment to open any roadways that were completely blocked. The city added that crews will continue the cleanup of trees in the public right of ways in the upcoming days.
Meanwhile, heavy thunderstorms early Monday morning brought torrential rain, gusty wind and hail to the Iowa Great Lakes. A total of 3.55 inches of rain reportedly fell at the KUOO studios, the station reported.
Street flooding was reported in Spirit Lake. Authorities said the water had since receded as of 7:30 a.m. as the rain had moved out of the area. Gusty wind also brought down some tree limbs in some areas.
Things were much tamer in Worthington early Monday. The National Weather Service reported a total of .46 inches of rain was measured following a thunderstorm during Monday's pre-sunrise hours.
The weather forecast for Worthington and the region calls for mainly dry conditions and highs in the mid-80s through Thursday.
