Man died as a result of grain bin accident

A rural Balaton man died after being trapped in a grain bin Tuesday afternoon, the Murray County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office identified the accident victim on Thursday as Bruce Andrew Larson, 48.

Emergency responders from multiple area agencies were dispatched Tuesday to an address on the 700 block of 211th Street in Murray County. Reports at the scene indicated that Larson was completely submerged in grain, and people at the scene were unable to locate him.

Emergency responders extricated Larson from the grain bin, and medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures. The sheriff’s office said those efforts were unsuccessful and Larson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Murray County Chief Deputy Bryan Bose stated in a Thursday news release that information gathered at the accident scene indicated Larson had entered the grain bin to install additional grain handling equipment. During that operation, Larson became submerged in grain and was unable to escape.

The incident remains under investigation.
