Mahlberg, Meyer and Schutz earn all-conference golf honors for Trojans

Three Worthington Trojans have been named to the Big South Conference Girls Golf All-Conference Team.


Selected from the Trojans were sophomore Claire Meyer, senior Claire Mahlberg and eight-grader Ava Schutz.


Among the others chosen for the team were: senior Ada Lund, junior Madison Rasche and freshman Ali Lund of Windom; sophomore Macie Edstrom and freshman Ingrid Mostad of Luverne; and senior Rachel Mohr of Jackson County Central. Marshall had senior Ali Pederson, junior Dayton Webskowski and sophomore

Anna Thor included. Representing Fairmont were junior Leslie Zarling and sophomores Carly Gustafson and Katherine Zelaya.

In Senior American Legion baseball Thursday night, Worthington took care of host Pipestone in a five-inning contest, 11-0.


Worthington scored two runs in the top of the first and later added nine more in the fifth. Among the big hitters on the night were Austin Gruis, who connected for two singles and a double and drove in a run; Tucker Brandner; two singles and an RBI; Chase Byrne, a bases-clearing double; Logan Kerkaert, a double and RBI; and Dawson Svalland, a two-run single.


Max Ostrem pitched all five innings for Worthington, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven. Next up for Post 5, now 3-1, is a home game Tuesday against Luverne and an away game Thursday at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

The All-Red Rock Conference Softball Team for the just-completed 2025 season has been announced.


Among those named to the team are senior Kaylin Gibson and freshmen Brekkyn Dreesen, Avery Jenniges and Audrina Tiesler of Adrian-Ellsworth. The Dragons' Shandra Cuperus and Maddie Cummings both earned honorable mention recognition.


The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes were represented on the all-conference team by freshman Lauren Hendel. Everly Henning of the Coyotes was an honorable mention pick.


Others recognized as all-conference players were:


Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian: seniors Elliott Fleischman and Cathryn Feikema, junior Kami Smit and sophomore Addison Nibbelink. Kya Voge and Liana Bloemendaal were honorable mention.


Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey: senior Ella Dockter and juniors Julia Brinkman and Ashley Pfeiffer. Ella Mae Peters and Nadia Phonmachan were honorable mentions.


Murray County Central: seniors Elyse Paulzine, Emmi Peltola and Thea Schneider and juniors Kate Blankenship and Ava Deacon. Calleigh Doeden and Katherine Miller were honorable mention.


Red Rock Central: senior Natalie Wahl. Natasha Wahl was honorable mention.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton: sophomores Laken Baartman and Paisley Thooft and freshman Jaida Fricke. Payton Johansen and Kensington Vanderplaats were honorable mention.
