Luverne puts end to WHS boys hockey season, 7-1

Luverne scored four goals in the second period and three more in the third and the third-seeded Cardinals defeated No. 6 Worthington 7-1 in a quarterfinal round game in the Section 3A Boys Hockey Tournament.


After a scoreless first period, Brock Behrend made it 1-0, Luverne, just 25 seconds into the second on an assist from Blaik Bork, but the Trojans bounced back quickly. Konner Honius scored a power-play goal at 2:44 of the second period on passes from Blake Luinenburg and Alec Langerud.


Bork, Jack Schlosser and Behrend would each score later in the second period to make it 4-1, Cardinals. Behrend completed his hat trick in the third, and Elliot Domagala also added a pair of goals. Owen Sudenga and Patrick Kroski also had two assists in the game for Luverne , which outshot the Trojans 39-26.


WHS ended its season with a 12-14 record.


In other Section 3A hockey Thursday, Windom Area defeated Marshall 7-1 and New Ulm topped Fairmont 10-1.
