Worthington came away with a boys track and field victory Thursday at Fairmont’s JV Invite, totaling 70 points compared to Fairmont’s 59 and Jackson County Central’s 12.


Senior Charlie Brands was triumphant in both the long jump and triple jump for WHS. Senior Tedros Kassa was a winner in the 100 meters, sophomore Isaiah Bates won the 200, senior Miguel Urquia took the 400, freshman Henok Ergicho captured the 800, freshman Kuma Buta won the 1600 and freshman Thet Tay was victorious in the high jump.


In the girls competition in Fairmont, it was the Cardinals winding up on top with 100 total points. JCC was second with 26 and Worthington had 11.


Junior Sabina Coj Chingo won the 200 meters for the Trojans.


In high school softball Thursday, it was a tough one for Worthington as the Trojans lost to New Ulm 22-0 in a four-inning game. Hannah McNab and Bailey Ponto had the lone hits for WHS.


On Tuesday, WHS was on the road and was swept at Fairmont in a doubleheader by scores of 15-4 and 10-0. Abby Linder had a double and single in the opening game, and Lauren Nelson added a triple and two RBIs. McNab, Katy Welch and Maddie Petersen had singles in the nightcap.


The Trojans’ softball team is winless since April 11.
