The Minnesota West Lady Jays softball team concluded their season with a flourish Wednesday, sweeping a doubleheader with visiting Anoka-Ramsey 12-10 and 10-4.
Minnesota West prevailed in a back-and-forth opening game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 10-10 tie. Raya Van Beek and Cassie Boyum each had two-out singles to put the Lady Jays up by two heading into seventh, and Kya Alderson struck out a pair of Golden Rams batters in the final inning to close things out.
Minnesota West had taken a 3-0 lead in the first, but Anoka-Ramsey bounced back with four in the top of the third to grab a one-run edge. The Lady Jays then responded with five in the bottom of the third for an 8-4 advantage.
Anoka-Ramsey put up two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to knot the score, setting the stage for Minnesota West's victorious finish.
In the second game, Minnesota West jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Golden Rams were able to trim the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth, but the Lady Jays scored three times in the bottom of the fifth and once more in the sixth to seal the deal.
With the two victories, Minnesota West wrapped up its season with a record of 5-11. Wednesday's wins made up a sweep the Lady Jays suffered at Anoka-Ramsey earlier this month, when they lost 8-0 and 8-7.
