The Minnesota West softball team was victorious in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday against Rochester, winning the first in dominating fashion 17-1 and then outlasting the Yellowjackets 19-15.
In game one, the Lady Jays took advantage of 14 Rochester walks while also connecting for 11 hits. Freshman Hannah Kazemba of Round Lake had three of those hits while also scoring three times, and freshman Maddie Petersen of Worthington had a single and double while driving in three runs. Faith Kazemba and Raya Van Beek also had three RBIs each.
Kya Alderson, the MCAC Softball South Division Pitcher of the Week, pitched all five innings of the 10-run-rule triumph, allowing just four hits and one run while walking one and striking out eight.
In game two, Van Beek had two doubles and a single along with 3 RBIs. Faith Kazemba added a pair of doubles and drove in five runs, and Alderson, Gracie Nath and Petersen had two RBIs apiece. Alderson picked up the pitching win again with 4 2/3 innings of relief.
