Lady Jays win at Fergus Falls, earn 24th victory of season

The Minnesota West Lady Jays won on the road at Fergus Falls on Wednesday night, as Olivia Hayenga topped four double-digit scorers with 19 points to help the nation’s third-ranked team defeat Minnesota State 79-55.

The Lady Jays had a 36-23 advantage at halftime and went on to outscore their hosts 16-5 in the third quarter to ice the game. Dasia Potter came off the bench to contribute 17 points while hitting five shots from 3-point territory. Madisyn Huisman also had 17 points for Minnesota West, and Dannyn Peterson added 16.

On the boards, Tia Murray pulled down 14 rebounds for the Jays and Hayenga had 10. Brooklyn Scheitel-Taylor recorded a game-best six steals. Fergus Falls was limited to just 32% shooting as Minnesota West moved to 24-2 on the season.

In the men’s game, Carter Drent had season highs of 19 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota West, but the Bluejays’ losing streak reached 10 straight games with a 96-63 loss at Minnesota State.

Steve Ndumbe connected for 16 points for Minnesota West and also led the team with four assists. Sam Daho chipped in with 10 points as the Bluejays shot just 36% from the floor and committed 22 turnovers.
