The Minnesota West Lady Jays made it two-for-two on their road trip to Chicago on Monday by posting a 79-68 win over Joliet Junior College.
The Lady Jays, now 5-2 on the season, trailed 31-30 at halftime, but then outscored their hosts 29-9 in the third quarter to take a commanding lead. Boosting Minnesota West in multiple categories was Olivia Hayenga, who had 26 points in the game – with 12 coming on free throws – while also contributing 12 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocked shots.
Hattie DeVries also had another strong outing for the Lady Jays, as she wound up with 23 points along with 11 rebounds. Audrey Drapeau added 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for Minnesota West, which also got a 14-rebound performance from Skylla Peterson.
The Lady Jays didn’t shoot the basketball particularly well at just 34% from the field but crashed the boards to the tune of 71 total rebounds. Minnesota West’s next matchup is at home at 6 p.m. Saturday against the Bethany Lutheran JV.

In men’s basketball Monday night, the Bethany Lutheran JV edged Minnesota West 68-66 at the Center for Health and Wellness.
Jordan Sinclair had 14 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Bluejays, who dropped to 1-5 on the season. Henry Counsel chipped in with 12 points and Rashawn Williams had 10.
Minnesota West made 42% of its shots from the floor compared to Bethany Lutheran’s 37%, but the visitors made three more shots from the free-throw line as well as three more 3-pointers. The Bluejays are now idle until Nov. 28, when they travel to Mankato to a rematch with Bethany Lutheran.
