The Minnesota West Lady Jays softball team split a doubleheader Tuesday in WIllmar as it beat Ridgewater 8-2 and then lost 11-10.
Kya Alderson tossed a complete game while allowing three hits and one earned run; she walked five and struck out four. Minnesota West was down 2-0 after the first inning but bounced back.
Maddie Petersen singled, doubled and drove in two runs for the Lady Jays. Faith Kazemba singled, doubled and had one RBI. Alderson doubled and also drove in a pair.
In the second game, the Lady Jays led the Warriors 10-6 heading into the seventh and final inning, but Ridgewater rallied. Earlier, Minnesota West overcame a 6-1 deficit after two innings by scoring five times in the top of the third and four more in the fourth.
Faith Kazemba had two doubles, scored twice and added three RBIs for the Lady Jays. Alderson had a pair of doubles and scored twice, Thea Anderson had two singles, scored once and drove in one, Petersen doubled and had three RBIs, and Hannah Kazemba doubled and scored two runs. Hannah Kazemba was last week's MCAC South Division Position Player of the Week — an honor she earned for the second time this season.
Minnesota West was hurt by leaving a total of 19 runners on base in the game. The Lady Jays, now 8-5, play for the final time in the regular season on Friday when they host St. Cloud Tech in a doubleheader slated to begin at 3 p.m.
