Lady Jays cruise to road win at Riverland while men's team falls by 9

The No. 1-ranked Minnesota West Lady Jays basketball team was on the road at winless Riverland on Wednesday night, and those expecting a lopsided score were by no means surprised.

Minnesota West outscored their hosts 28-0 in the second quarter and ultimately finished off a 108-24 victory. The Lady Jays are now 3-0 in conference play and 13-5 overall.

Minnesota West had excellent balance on offense in the game, as seven players had double-figure point totals. Sadie Krahling and Katrina Schutz each had 16 points, Izzy Klumper had 15, Ayla Texley and Anitasia Smith had 13 each, and Payton Reimers and Jayda Hellewell added 12 apiece. Hellewell led the team with 10 rebounds. Maddie Kamm passed for nine assists and also scored nine points.

In the men's game, Minnesota West kept it close with third-ranked Riverland and led 39-38 at halftime before eventually losing 75-66. With the loss, the Bluejays are now 9-9 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

Keion Irvin had team highs of 17 points, six rebounds and four steals. Calvin Flood contributed 15 points, and Kewone Jones added 11. Riverland, meanwhile, is now 15-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

Minnesota West's basketball teams will play host to St. Cloud Tech on Sunday afternoon.
