JCC Huskies take Section 3AA softball title, advance to state

**

Jackson County Central captured the Section 3AA softball tourney title and will now head to state for the first time in 20 years.


Morris Area/Albert-Chokio Alberta needed two wins over the Huskies on Thursday in Marshall, and JCC was taken to the limit. After losing the opening contest 2-1 in eight innings, the Huskies outlasted the Tigers 7-2 in 14 innings to win the section.


JCC snapped a 2-2 in the 14th when Mady Wachal connected for a two-out, two-run single to score Cora Pauling and Miley VanDeVere. Braelyn Boogerd followed with a hit to bring in three runs.


Hadley Wachal pitched the entire 14 innings in the second game, striking out 19 and allowing just two fourth-inning runs. She also struck out the side in the bottom of the 14th to close out the victory,

In Section 3A softball Thursday in Marshall, Wabasso defeated Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christan 5-1 to advance to the state tournament.

In Section 3A baseball, No. 4 Minneota eliminated No. 1 seed Murrray County Central from sectional title contention as it beat the Rebels 9-8 in Milroy,

In Section 3AA baseball Thursday, No. 4 seed Windom Area beat No. 1 Fairmont 6-1 in Fairmont. No. 2 seed Luverne won at home against No. 3 St. James, 2-1. Luverne plays at Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at noon Saturday and Windom Area plays Montevideo at 2:30 p.m.; both of those games are in Marshall.
