JCC has qualifiers for state girls track and field meet

Jackson County Central's Natalia Botello-Ramos will be competing at this week's state track and field meet in three events as a result of her performance Saturday in the Section 2A Championships at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton High School in Janesville.


Botello-Ramos won the 100 meters with a personal-record time of 12.41 seconds and also was victorious in the 200 meters with a clocking of 25.76 seconds that was also a personal best. Additionally, Botello-Ramos ran the initial leg for the 4x200 relay team that placed second for the Huskies on Saturday. Also part of that team, which qualified for state for the second straight year, are Zoey Hall, Stevie Untiedt and Allison Luebben.


Also qualifying for state in two events was Alabama Hoonhorst of Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, who finished first in the discus with a personal record of 132 feet, 3 inches, and placed second in the shot put competition with her best-ever toss of 34 feet, 3.5 inches.


Among those from the region earning top 10 girls section finishes were: JCC's Naiya Ayers, third in the 3200 meters; Laiken Farris of HL-O/F, fourth in the 1600; Luebben of the Huskies, fifth in the 100 and seventh in the long jump; Untiedt of the Huskies, fifth in the 400, Brynlee Farris of HL-O/F, seventh in the triple jump; and Mara Clarke of the Coyotes, 10th in the 3200. 


In the boys competition, among those from the region earning top 10 finishes were: JCC's David Botello-Ramos, third in the 3200 meters; Mason Kirchner of Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, fifth in the pole vault; Grant Ambrose of the Huskies, sixth in the 300 meter hurdles; and Matthew Stapek of the Coyotes, seventh in the 1600 meters. 


Adrian-Ellsworth, meanwhile, competed last Thursday at the Section 3A Championships in Pipestone. Top placers for the Dragons were Josh Honken, third in the shot put; Darwin Demarrias-Jansma, fourth in the 1600 and seventh in the 400; Carter Murphy, eighth in the 100; and Caelan Bertrand, ninth in the long jump.

Jackson County Central will open play today at the State Class AA softball tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Huskies, who are 25-1, will meet seventh-seeded Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 3 p.m. at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
