JCC falls to Albany in first game at state boys basketball tourney

Albany scored the game's first 10 points Tuesday night and went on to capture an 85-49 win over Jackson County Central in the Class 2A state boys basketball tournament quarterfinals.
Fifth-seeded Albany led JCC 41-23 at halftime and grew their advantaged further in the second half. Albany will next face No. 1 seed Goodhue, which beat Perham 70-49, in the semifinals on Friday.
Fourth-seeded JCC, which was led Tuesday by Weston Rowe's 15 points and eight rebounds, will now play a consolation game against Perham at 6 p.m. Thursday at Concordia University.

Two teams of Worthington youth wrestlers competed in regional events this past weekend and both teams qualified for state.
For individual seventh- and eighth-graders: Dyson Neugebauer took first place at 100 pounds; Bly Scott took first at 115; Jace Riemersma-Feit took first place at 125; Hayden Riemersma-Feit was fourth place at 90; and Juan Palma was sixth at 120.
For individual K- through grade six: John1Kremer took first place at 61 pounds; Harrison Larson was first at 75; Lincoln Graber was first at 80; Ryker Teerink took first at 155; Carter Barduson took third at 61; Decker Vortherms was third at 90; Brae Scott was fourth at 88; Isai Zepeda was fifth at 90; Brock Schroeder took fifth at 102; and Brekan Vortherms was fifth at 108.
The seventh- and eighth-grade team hosted regionals and placed second, while the K-through-sixth team was eighth.
