JCC, A-E, F/MCC and WHS all sending wrestlers to state tournament

Multiple wrestlers from area high schools qualified for the state meet during Section 3A Individual competition Saturday in Springfield.
Qualifying from Jackson County Central were: Payten Sorbel, first at 107 pounds; Matthias Liepold, second at 127; Isaac Rodriguez, second at 139; Kyler Thier, first at 145; Dallas Gossen, first at 152; and Carson Kolander, second at 189.
Qualifying from Adrian-Ellsworth were: Travis Weiss, second at 133 pounds; Charger Erlandson, second at 142; Jackson Jenniges, first at 160; Caleb Wolf, second at 172; Jesse Bullerman, first at 189; and Garrett Penning, second at 285.
Qualifying from Fulda/Murray County Central were: Kaston Clarke, first at 121 pounds; Quintin Lewis, second at 160; and Colby Kesterloot, first at 285.
In the Section 3AA individual meet this weekend in Hutchinson, Worthington's Dominic Larson qualified for the state meet at 107 pounds. Also placing for the Trojans were Jace Riemersma-Feit, fourth at 121; Miguel Moreno, sixth at 139; and Raylen Teerink, sixth at 189.

At the Minnesota Class A individual gymnastics competition on Saturday, Jada Milbrath was 15th in the all-around with a score of 35.25 and Isabella Lazzu 23rd at 34.05. Lazzu was 15th on the vault at 9.1125, Milbrath 29th at 8.75 and Marley Phomsatry 35th at 8.7625. Milbrath was 16th on the bars at 8.765; Lucy Thier 30th at 8.1; Lazzu 39th at 7.8125, and Claire Meyer 43rd at 7.775. Milbrath was 24th on the beam at 9.025, Brooklyn Dykstra 35th at 8.55 and Lazzu 43rd at 7.875. On the floor, Lazzu was 26th at 9.1125, Thier 35th at 8.8125 and Milbrath 36th at 8.675.
Meanwhile, Jackson County Central had two individuals competing. Braelynn Boogerd scored 8.9 on the vault to place 28th; Clara Brinks had an 8.175 on beam to place 41st.
At state gymnastics team competition Friday night, Worthington placed seventh with a total of 139.150 points. Detroit Lakes was champion at 147.125.
The Trojans finished sixth among teams on the vault with a score of 35.725, sixth on the bars at 33.550, seventh on the beam at 34.475 and seventh on the floor at 35.300.

The top-ranked Minnesota West Lady Jays finished off a perfect MCAC South season on Saturday with an 87-50 win over visiting Ridgewater.
The Lady Jays are 21-5 overall and will have the No. 1 seed at next weekend's regional tournament in Coon Rapids. Tied 15-15 after the first quarter, Minnesota West outscored the Warriors 26-8 in the second to get a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Katrina Schutz had team highs of 24 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots for the Lady Jays. Sadie Krahling and Payton Reimers added 15 points apiece as Minnesota West made 53% of its shots from the floor and limited Ridgewater to 28% shooting.
The Bluejay men were tied with Ridgewater at 46 at halftime, but the Warriors blew out Minnesota West with 73 points in the second half to win 119-90. Tyrese Mayo, who leads the MCAC South in points per game, hit for 31 Saturday for Ridgewater, which made 64% of its shots in the contest.
The Bluejays finished their season with a 4-8 conference mark and 12-15 overall. Sophomore Keion Irvin had 18 points in his final game, while Julian Pacheco and Jackson Donahue had 11 apiece. Another sophomore, Kewone Jones, added 10 points.

It was Super Saturday in the Worthington High School gym as four Section 3A South girls basketball games were played. In order, they were: Hills-Beaver Creek 75, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton 40; Westbrook-Walnut Grove 52, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 40; Adrian-Ellsworth 65, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 58; and Murray County Central 51, Edgerton 44.
It will be top-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek against No. 5 Westbrook-Walnut Grove and second-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth facing No. 3 MCC in Tuesday semifinal games in Worthington.
