Jackson County crash injures teen driver, passenger

Two Windom females were injured in a one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Jackson County.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica operated by a 15-year-old female was northbound on Minnesota 86 when the vehicle crashed. The incident took place at 4:32 p.m. Monday near milepost 22 in Delafield Township.


Both the driver and a passenger — Shawna Mae Vancura, 50, of Windom — were transported to Windom Area Health with non-life-threatening injuries. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Windom Police and Fire Departments and the Windom EMS assisted at the scene.

An Ocheyedan, Iowa woman was hurt Monday in a single-vehicle crash north of Sheldon.


According to the O'Brien County Sheriff's Office, a 2008 Pontiac operated by Mariana Garcia, 34, was southbound on McKinley Avenue when Garcia fell asleep, causing the vehicle to cross the center line, head into a ditch and strike a driveway before coming to rest.


Garcia sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. She was cited for failure to maintain control and failure to use seat belts.


Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $6,000.
