It's a big day in high school softball as postseason play opens Tuesday

Postseason softball will begin Tuesday for the Worthington Trojans as they'll play at Pipestone Area at 3 p.m. in the first round of the Section 3AA South Subsection Softball Tournament.


While the Trojans are seeded seventh and winless on the season, the Arrows are the No. 2 seed and have an overall record of 12-10 this spring. The winner of the WHS-Pipestone Area matchup will play another game Tuesday, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Pipestone, against the winner of a 4:30 p.m. game between third-seeded Windom Area and sixth-seeded Luverne. The Trojans-Arrows loser will drop into the elimination bracket and next play Saturday afternoon in Marshall.


Jackson County Central has the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in the south subsection and will play at 6 p.m. Tuesday against the victor of a matchup between No. 4 Redwood Valley and No. 5 Minneota/Canby that begins at 4:30 p.m. Both the 4:30 and 6 p.m. games will be at JCC.


The south subsection title game will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, and a sectional semifinal showdown is set for 5 p.m. next Tuesday. The section's championship bracket winner will then meet the elimination bracket winner at 5 p.m. next Thursday; a second contest will follow if needed. All of those games will be in Marshall.

The Section 3A Softball Tournament begins Tuesday, and among the south subsection matchups is a game between fourth-seeded Adrian-Ellsworth and fifth-seeded Lakeview scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Wabasso.


The victor of the Dragons-Lakers contest plays again at 6 p.m. against either top-seeded Wabasso or No. 8 seed Murray County Central. Those teams meet in a game slated to begin at 3 p.m. Also Tuesday, second-seeded BOLD plays No. 7 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 3 p.m. and No. 3 Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian meets No. 6 Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at 4:30 p.m. Both of those games are in Olivia, and their winners will play each other at 6 p.m. Tuesday.


Elimination bracket games start at 1 p.m. Saturday, and the south subsection championship bracket title game will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. A sectional semifinal showdown is set for 4:30 p.m. next Tuesday. The section's championship bracket winner will then meet the elimination bracket winner at 4 p.m. next Thursday; a second contest will follow if needed. All of those games will be in Marshall.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, meanwhile, is part of the Section 2A Softball Tournament and is the No. 15 seed. The Coyotes will play at No. 2 United South Central at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
