The Worthington Trojans softball team are scheduled to open play in the Section 2AAA Girls Softball Tournament at Caswell Park in North Mankato with a pair of Tuesday games.
The Trojans have been seeded seventh in the tourney and are slated to take on fourth-seeded Marshall at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Field 1. Should they win, WHS would meet the winner of a matchup between fifth-seeded St. Peter and sixth-seeded Albert Lea at 7 p.m. at Field 1. Should they lose, they’ll play the St. Peter-Albert Lea loser at 7 p.m. at Field 4.
Additionally tourney play is set for Wednesday, and softball action resumes Saturday at Caswell Park with games including the tournament top’s three seeds – New Ulm, Mankato East and Mankato West, respectively – along with the champion that emerges from Tuesday and Wednesday play involving the fourth through seventh seeds. The sectional tourney continues on Tuesday, May 28 and Thursday, May 30.
The tournament games scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday have a double elimination format, as do the games that begin Saturday.

In the Section 3AA softball tournament, Luverne is the No. 1 seed and will play either No. 4 Pipestone or No. 5 Minneota/Canby at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Luverne.
Windom, the No. 2 seed, will meet the victor of a matchup between No. 3 Jackson County Central and No. 6 Redwood Valley in a game scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday in Windom. The Eagles will face either the Huskies or Cardinals at 5:30.
The second day of competition is Saturday in Marshall, with the tournament continuing May 28 and 30.

In Section 3A softball, Adrian-Ellsworth has a game scheduled for 3 p.m. Tuesday at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton. Also that day, Southwest Minnesota Christian-Edgerton hosts Lakeview at 3 p.m., Murray County Central meets BOLD at 4:30 p.m. in Edgerton, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton faces Wabasso at 4:30 p.m. in Tyler, Red Rock Central/Westbrook Walnut Grove plays Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 5 p.m. in Lamberton, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda plays at United South Central at 5 p.m. and Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey takes on Cleveland at 5 p.m. in Mountain Lake.

At the Iowa State Track and Field Meet on Saturday, Ethan Steckler of Spirit Lake finished first for a state title in the Class 2A Boys 110 Meter Hurdles with a time of 14.30. Teammate Cooper Winkel was third.
Spirit Lake’s Fran Travis was also a state champion in the Class 2A Girls Discus with a throw of 140-05. The Indians’ Lauren Travis also placed 13th in that event.
Okoboji captured a state title by taking the Class 2A Girls 4x100 Meter Relay in a time 48.97 seconds. Spirit Lake was fourth in the same event and third in the 4x200 relay.
Leah Bolluyt of Spirit Lake took second place in the Class 2A Girls 400 Meter Hurdles; she was also eighth in the Class 2A Girls 100 Meter Hurdles. Okoboji finished in second place and Spirit Lake seventh in the Class 2A Boys Distance Medley Relay.
Sibley-Ocheyedan finished in third place in the Class 1A Boys Distance Medley Relay as well as in seventh place in the 4x200 meter relay.
In the Class 2A Boys Sprint Medley Relay, Spirit Lake placed third and Okoboji 15th; Spirit Lake was eighth in Class AA Girls. In the Class 2A Boys 4x400 Meter Relay, Okoboji was third. Sibley-Ocheyedan was 11th in the Class 1A Boys Sprint Medley Relay.
In the Class 2A Boys 800 meters, Evan Osler of Okoboji was third, Ryler Sundall of Spirit Lake fifth and Trigg Heimdal of Okoboji 21st. In Class 1A, David Poppen of Sibley-Ocheyedan took 15th.
Okobiji placed fourth in the Class 2A Boys Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and Spirit Lake was fourth in the Class 2A 4x100 Meter Relay. In the Class 2A Girls 100 meters, Miley Wells of Okoboji was seventh. Tate Marco of Sibley-Ocheyedan was 13th in the Class 1A Boys 400 Meter Hurdles.
Ben Byers of Sibley-Ocheyedan was fifth in the Class 1A Boys 1600 Meters. Okoboji’s Krishauna Allen and Spirit Lake’s Anthea Leupold were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the Class 2A Girls 200 Meters. Brandon Hughes of Spirit Lake was 14th at that distance in Class 2A.
Adam Schierholz of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn was sixth in the Class 1A boys discus, and Gracie Gunderson of Harris-Lake Park was ninth in the Class 1A girls high jump. Charlotte Pritchard of Spirit Lake was 15th in the 400 meter hurdles. Okoboji’s Drew Sandven was 18th in the Class 2A Boys 400 Meters.
