Five boys and one girl will represent Worthington High School at the state track and field meet next week at St. Michael-Albertville High School.

The Section 2AAA meet took place Wednesday and Friday at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. One Trojan male secured state qualification on Day One, as senior Welbaka Morke jumped 42 feet, 4.75 inches to secure his spot. Morke wound up placing eighth at sections.

On Friday, four more WHS males qualified for the state meet. Junior Tetlouch Gach, who had finished first in the 110-meter hurdles prelims on Wednesday, came in second in the finals Friday with a time of 15.20 seconds. Senior Fanuel Wolday earned a state spot by taking second in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:31.09. Sophomore Caleb Meyer kept his season going by winning the sectional high jump competition with a leap of 6 feet, 7 inches; he'll be headed to state for the second time. Also in the high jump, junior Thet Tay advanced to state, thanks to an effort of 6 feet, 2 inches that was good enough for a third-place finish.

Worthington finished eighth as a team in the boys standings at St. Peter with 67 points.

In the girls competition, Trojans senior Grace Bates will be representing WHS at state after placing second in the triple jump at sectionals. Bates qualified with a leap of 35 feet, 11.5 inches. Worthington placed 10th in the girls team standings with 16 points.
