Fall baseball league to be led by Minnesota West players

Minnesota West is once again coordinating a fall baseball league.

The league is intended to be a fun, competitive and developmental fall baseball experience coached and mentored by current college baseball players — all on Sundays only for six consecutive weeks. There will be a youth league for players entering fifth or sixth grades, a junior league for players entering seventh through ninth grades and a high school league for players entering 10th through 12th grades.

There will be four to six teams per league with 10 to 14 on each team. There will be two Minnesota West baseball players coaching each team. There will be one game per team per Sunday (seven innings or 1.5-hour cap). An optional 30-minute warmup/practice will be before each game.

Registration is open now and continues through Aug. 24. A coaches' meeting and team assignments are on Aug. 21, and opening day with week one games is Sept. 6. Games are six consecutive Sundays through Oct. 11.

The fee is $100 per player. Checks may be mailed to Bluejay Booster Club -Baseball, Attn: Joe Kinley, 1450 Collegeway, Worthington, MN 56187. They also may be dropped off at the Minnesota West athletics office.

The camp is scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 on the Worthington campus. Youth entering kindergarten through second grade are invited to learn volleyball basics through games, drills, teamwork and plenty of energy-fill. The camp is being promoted as perfect for beginners or those who already love the game and is intended to build confidence, friendships and skills on the court.

The camp will be led by Minnesota West Lady Jays players and coaches. The cost is $25. Learn more online at juniorjays.sportngin.com or email juniorjaysvb@gmail.com.
