The Worthington Cubs amateur baseball team will be back at home Wednesday to take on the Jackson Bulls in a game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The Cubs head into Wednesday's matchup following a 4-2 loss at the Milroy Irish on Sunday afternoon. The Cubs led 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the home team rallied.
Logan Huisman blasted a solo home run for Worthington, and Tucker Brandner contributed a triple and two singles at the plate while scoring the other Cubs' run. Justin Saufley tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits while walking two and striking out eight. Max Ostrem took the pitching loss; two of the runs he surrendered were unearned.
Worthington had better luck in its previous game as it knocked off visiting Heron Lake 7-5 last Wednesday. Tyler Linder enjoyed a four-hit night and also drove in three runs. Huisman, Daniel Castro, and Ethan Meyer also picked up two hits each and had an RBI apiece. Kent Lais and Tate Gaul came off the bench and both hit doubles. Huisman threw the first five innings and was the winning pitcher.
The Cubs are currently 4-6 overall and 3-5 in league play. Jackson, Worthington's opponent on Wednesday, has an overall record of 5-3.
