Cubs defeated 5-2 by Luverne; will play at Larchmont on Thursday

The Worthington Cubs will head to the northwest corner of Iowa on Thursday night to take on the Larchwood Diamonds. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Cubs were in action Sunday at home and were beaten by the Luverne Redbirds, 5-2. Luverne scored in the top of the first, and the Cubs got a two-run double from Tyler Linder in the third for a 2-1 edge. The Redbirds tied it in the fourth, and the game remained at 2-2 until Luverne scored three times in the top of the ninth.

Tucker Brandner started on the mound for Worthington, allowing one earned run and striking out four batters in four innings. Linder took the mound for the first time in two years and tossed two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out two. Max Ostrem pitched the final three innings; he allowed two hits and struck out three. Only one of the runs he surrendered was earned.

The Cubs, who also got a double and single from Daniel Castro, are now 5-8 overall.
