The City of Worthington issued a press release Thursday regarding an opening on the city council.
The resignation of Worthington City Council Member Larry Janssen has resulted in the need to fill his unexpired Ward 1 term. In compliance with the city charter and state statutes, the City Council shall appoint a replacement to serve through Dec. 31, 2026.
This appointment shall be by majority council vote, with Mayor Rick von Holdt voting in the event of a tie. To be eligible for consideration of this appointment, a candidate must be a U. S. citizen, eligible to vote in Minnesota, at least 21 years of age and be a resident of Ward 1 for the past 30 days.
Council members receive an annual salary of $6,000 (pro-rated for partial year) and extra meeting(s) compensation of $100 per meeting. City council meetings take place on the second and fourth Mondays of the month. In the event a holiday falling on the Monday, the meeting would take place on that Tuesday. Council members also serve on sub committees and will have approximately five-to-seven meetings per month.
The council requests that candidates submit a written letter of interest along with a short biography that includes why you are interested in serving on the City Council and your vision of the future of Worthington. Letters must be sent to City Clerk Mindy Eggers at City Hall or by email at meggers@ci.worthington.mn.us by 5 p.m, Friday, June 27.
