A burn ban is now in effect in Lyon county Iowa.
The ban was issued by the State Fire Marshal at the request of the county's fire chiefs. It means open burning now constitutes a danger to life or property. The ban will remain in place until further notice. Any violation is classified as a simple misdemeanor.
Lyon County Emergency Management Coordinator Arden Kopischke says the ban does not pertain to fireworks, but he says individual governmental entities could enact a temporary ban on fireworks usage as well if they deem it necessary.
