The Minnesota West Bluejay wrestling team will be home this weekend as it hosts the 33rd annual Worthington Open Tournament.

The Bluejays were previously in action this past weekend as they took on Northland Community & Technical College and Ridgewater College in a triangular meet at Minnesota West's Center for Health & Wellness. The Bluejays were first defeated by Northland 30-24, then won 39-9 against Ridgewater.

Aidyn Wolfe got Minnesota West on the board against Northland with a win by fall at 184 pounds. Two forfeits moved the Bluejays ahead 18-0, but Northland took the next three matches by forfeit for an 18-18 score. Minnesota West then dropped the next two matches before picking up another win via forfeit, resulting in the final 30-24 score.

In the second dual of the day, the Bluejays started off ahead 6-0 thanks to a forfeit victory at 125. After a pair of losses, Minnesota West earned another forfeit win at 157 and then picked up a victory by decision from freshman Treveon Owens at 165. Ninth-ranked Sam Rock, Wolfe and Brody Knapp each recorded their second wins of the day via the forfeit route, and Billey Mensah won by fall in the first period to wrap up the team triumph.

Earlier in the week, the Bluejays traveled to Iowa Lakes on Wednesday, Jan. 8 and were defeated 29-24. Iowa Lakes built a 23-0 advantage in the match, but Owens, Rock and Wolfe each won by fall for a 23-18 score. A forfeit win at 197 put Minnesota West ahead 24-23 going into the final match of the night, but a Bluejay injury early on ultimately resulted in the lowa Lakes match triumph.

Wrestling action at this weekend's Worthington Open begins at 9 a.m. Saturday.
