Bluejay men edged at Ridgewater, 74-73

Minnesota West’s men’s basketball team rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit Wednesday night in Willmar against Ridgewater but wound up falling just short in a 74-73 setback.

 

Ridgewater shot just 33% from the field compared to 45% for the Bluejays, but the Warriors went to the free throw line 27 times and made 21 compared to 8-of-10 for Minnesota West. Ridgewater, which has a 10-9 record, also outrebounded the Jays, 41-32.

 

Four different players scored in double figures for Minnesota West. Paul Fairley Jr. had 15 points, Kenneth Logan had 12 and Karasharo Ojulo and Teddy Collins Jr. – returning after an extended absence due to injury – each added 11. Jordan Sinclair and Ojulo each had six rebounds.

 

The Bluejays, now 3-16, play at Peru State College on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Lady Jays’ game scheduled for Wednesday against the Dakota State JV was postponed.

The Worthington Trojans wrestling team competed in a four-team meet Tuesday night.

 

The Trojans were defeated by Quad County in their initial match, 42-33. Kian Ling won by fall at 107 pounds for WHS, as did Dalton Larson at 133 and Austin Gruis at 172. Worthington also got a pair of wins via forfeit and a 12-5 win by decision at 285 from Eh Day Htoo.

 

Redwood Valley defeated the Trojans, 54-15, and WHS got another pin from Larson in that match as well as a win by fall for Eh Day Htoo and a 6-4 win by decision for Gruis.

 

It was St. James Area 57, Worthington 16 in another match Tuesday. Alex Galvez won by fall at 127 pounds for the Trojans, and Larson picked up another six points via pin. Levi Hennings won a 14-6 major decision at 189.
