Bluejay baseball winning streak now at four games

Minnesota West's baseball team ran its winning streak to four games Friday by sweeping Minnesota State-Fergus Falls at the Worthington Middle School field. The Bluejays won the opener 8-1 and then took the second 9-2 in a pair of matchups that were moved from Saturday to Friday to take advantage of dry weather and temperatures in the 80s.

In the first game, Haruta Endo singled, doubled and tripled while scoring twice and driving in two runs. Ramsey had a pair of base hits and had three RBIs, and WHS grad Triston Sauerbrei gave up just four hits in a seven-inning complete game while walking three and striking out six.

In game two, Connor Eich was even more dominant on the mound for the Bluejays, allowing just one hit while walking two and fanning 11 in going the distance. Arturo Jimenez went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, and Ramsey and John Perez had a double and run batted in each.

Minnesota West is next scheduled to play a twinbill at St. Cloud Tech on Wednesday.

The Minnesota West Lady Jays softball team won a Saturday game and then dropped a pair Sunday in a trio of games played in Rochester at the RCTC Dome.

The Lady Jays, who were in action for the first time this spring, pounded Minnesota North College-Vermilion 20-3 on Saturday. On Sunday, they sustained a pair of narrow losses, as they dropped a back-and-forth 13-12 game to Rochester and eight innings before being edged 4-3 by Central Lakes.

Minnesota West will again head east to Rochester on Tuesday for a doubleheader against the Yellowjackets.
