Area woman pleads guilty to felony theft charge

A southwest Minnesota woman recently pleaded guilty to a charge of felony theft (diverting corporate property) while a second theft charge was dismissed.

The charges stem from a Nobles County Fair Association report from February 2023 and came following a Worthington Police Department investigation. Kimberly Lynn Gronewold, 37, faces a cap of 45 days in jail, three years of supervised probation and payment of restitution. It had been discovered during the investigation that Gronewold was using a Venmo account for the Worthington Speedway and transferring funds from it to her personal account and a Green Dot account.

Meanwhile, her husband, Corey Gronewold, is also facing felony charges of fraud in obtaining credit (money/property obtained) and forgery (destroying/mutilating records or documents without authority). He has an arraignment scheduled for 9 a.m. June 11 in Nobles County Fifth District Court.
