Area high school volleyball teams learn their playoff opponents

Seedings for upcoming sectional high school volleyball tournaments have been announced.

In the Section 3A South subsection bracket, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton is the No. 1 seed. R-T-R will meet the winner of a Monday night play-in match between No. 8 Southwest Minnesota Christian and No. 9 Red Rock Central at 7 p.m. next Thursday in Tyler. Westbrook-Walnut Grove, the No. 2 seed, will also play next Thursday against the winner of a match between seventh-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and 10th-seeded Edgerton.

Additional matches scheduled for next Thursday include No. 3 Adrian-Ellsworth hosting No. 6 Hills-Beaver Creek in Adrian, and No. 4 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda entertaining No. 5 Murray County Central in Okabena. The south subsection semifinals will be Oct. 28 in Worthington, and the final on Oct. 30 at Southwest Minnesota State University.

In the Section 3AA South subsection bracket, Windom is the No. 1 seed and will have a first-round bye. Matches scheduled for the opening round next Thursday are No. 4 Luverne hosting No. 5 Redwood Valley, No. 3 Pipestone Area taking on visiting Fairmont and No. 2 Jackson County Central welcoming St. James. 

Subsection semifinal matches will take place Oct. 28 at Windom Area High School, and the championship match will be Oct. 30 at Springfield High School. The sectional title match will be Nov. 1 at SMSU.
