Area artists receive Southwest MN Arts Council support

Regional artists were awarded recently with Southwest MN Arts Council Quick Support for Individual Artists grants. These grants provide artists with up to $1,000 for activities such as purchasing supplies, attending classes, and small artist-led community projects.

Among the artists receiving a grant was Kelly Henkels of Worthington, who was awarded $1,000 to create abstract wall hangings and 3-D creatures by exploring sewing, hand stitching, embroidery, fabric paints, gelli printing, felting, different textures of fabric and other supplies.

Additionally, Anne Hokenstad, also of Worthington, was awarded $455 to produce a visual art journal through a 90-day challenge and online courses by artist Dina Wakely.

Daryl Hrdlicka was been awarded $997 for a laptop computer to edit scripts and preview videos in the field. It will also provide access to Apple editing and filmmaking software and ensure compatibility with other filmmakers.

David KelseyBassett of Lamberton was awarded $1,000 to provide a live screen printing workshop at the Marshall Pride celebration at Independence Park, which took place on June 9.

A Southwest MN Arts Council Quick Support for Organizations grant for $2,297 was also awarded recently to the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra of Marshall for the purchase five cellist chairs, on which seats are tilted forward to provide the ideal balance.
