The amateur baseball regular season is in its home stretch and while one area team looks assured of a first-place finish, the top spot remains up for grabs in another league.
The Windom Pirates are enjoying a stellar 2025 campaign in the First Nite League and currently sport records of 11-1 in league play and 13-1 overall. Those marks put the Pirates comfortably ahead of the Jackson Bulls, who are 7-4 in the league and 8-6 overall. The Fairmont Martins, meanwhile, have won six games on the year, but have only played seven times, all in the league.
Rounding out the First Nite standings are: Fox Lake, 2-7 and 2-7; Lakefield, 2-8 and 2-8; and Heron Lake, 1-10 and 1-12.
In the Gopher League, it's the Milroy Irish who sit atop the standings with a league record of 7-3. The Irish are 8-7 overall. The second-place slot belongs to the Hadley Buttermakers, who are 6-4 and 11-5. The Pipestone A's are third at 5-6 and 7-8.
Completing the Gopher League standings are Luverne, which is 4-4 and 4-5, and Worthington, which is 4-7 and 6-7. The Cubs snapped a five-game losing streak with their win over Heron Lake on Sunday and have just two games left on their regular season schedule: at Tracy on July 9 and at Hadley on July 13.
The area amateur baseball postseason begins July 16.
