Adrian-Ellsworth nips MCC, keeps baseball season alive

Keagan Paulzine fired a two-hit shutout and the Adrian-Ellsworth Dragons kept their season alive Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over Murray County Central in a Section 3A baseball tournament game in Milroy.

Adrian-Ellsworth pushed across a run in the top of the third on singles by Paulzine, Jack Jenniges and Travis Weiss to take a 1-0 edge, but missed a chance for more by leaving the bases loaded. The Dragons also threatened in the fourth by getting the first two runners on but didn’t add to their lead.

A Caleb Wolf RBI double in the sixth resulted in the second Adrian-Ellsworth run, and Paulzine kept on cruising along to earn the complete-game win on the mound while striking out seven MCC hitters. Rebels pitcher Dykan Kluis, meanwhile, scattered eight hits in the game and fanned nine Dragons batters. He and Teague Meyer had the lone MCC hits.

Adrian-Ellsworth will next play Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in another elimination bracket game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Milroy.
