Susan Bullerman of Adrian Public Schools has been chosen as the Minnesota 3rd District's Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher of the
Year for elementary grades K-5.
Every year, the VFW names one teacher from each of three levels -- elementary (K-5), middle (6-8) and high school (9-12) -- to be honored. Established in 1999, the award recognizes the nation’s top teachers for their exceptional commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students by promoting civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism in the classroom.
Wilmont VFW Post #2603 acknowledged Bullerman as their K-5 Teacher candidate for 2025-26. Her nomination application was then forwarded to compete at the district level, and she was honored Jan. 3 at the District 3 VFW banquet in Worthington.
The state winners will be honored at the Mid-Winter Conference banquet on Saturday, after which their nomination will be forwarded to the national level for consideration.
