A-E's state baseball tourney dreams ended by MCC in Section 3A finals

The Murray County Central Rebels will advance to the state baseball tournament for the first time since 2001 after blanking Adrian-Ellsworth 7-0 on Thursday in Milroy for the Section 3A title.

Krew Schneider surrendered just three hits in throwing a shutout for MCC. He retired the first eight hitters before Keaton Schettler and Travis Weiss connected for back-to-back singles in the third. Garrett Penning had the other Dragons' hit, a sixth-inning single.

Teague Meyer doubled, Tristan Behrends singled him home and Carson Lewis had a sacrifice fly in the first for a 2-0 Rebels lead. Gabe Tentinger homered to lead off the second, and a two-run double by Meyer after a pair of walks in the third made it 5-0. 

A diving catch by Lewis at second base saved at least one run and closed the A-E fourth, and MCC got a run without a hit in the bottom of that inning for a 6-0 score. Meyer doubled again in the fifth and Behrends singled him home for the final run.

The Dragons finished their season with a 19-9 record.

Jackson County Central dominated St. Cloud Cathedral on Thursday afternoon in North Mankato, winning 11-1 to take third place in the Minnesota Class AA softball tournament.

Bailey Finck went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for the Huskies, who ended their year at 27-2 and set a school record with wins in a season. Cora Pauiling had two hits and two RBIs, and Mady Wachal also had a pair of hits. Hadley Wachal allowed just one hit and an unearned run while striking out eight.
